Mount Mary Church
The Basilica of our Lady of the Mount also known as the Mount Maru Church is a Roman Catholic Basilica located in the growing suburb of Bandra. It is located on a hilltop that provides as stunning view of the Arabian Sea. The place where it is situated is called Sunderban Bandra. The Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on the first Sunday after the 8th of September. The feast is followed by a week-long celebration known as the Banra fair that is visited by thousands of people.
Introduction
There is a common belief that this church was built during the 1640 and then rebuilt in 1761, contains healing power. Opposite the church are 2 staircases leading up to the statue of Virgin Mary. This is the place where people bring wax models of the part of the body that has a disease and pray for themselves or for their dying kids or family members. I myself have seen people wailing and shouting at the top of these staircases. Built by Britishers in their os architecture, the inside of the church is really attractive. Goan ( Goa ) sweets, different shaped candles, artifacts and statues of Virgin Mary are available outside the church. Inside the church is statue of 'Our Lady' that date backs to the 16th century.
